Meet the Trader

The Sugar and Spice Pop Up Flea Market at the wonderful Moon & Maybe, South Ealing, was a great success.  The space was transformed from a cafe to a buzzing night market and filled with regular Sugar and Spice traders and some new additions too.  The wine was flowing and we had lots of visitors, making a vibrant atmosphere.

We were joined by a local talented potter, Jackie Ward.  Jackie started working with clay at Hanwell Community Centre in 2014 and she was soon caught by the creative bug!  A few years later in 2017 she set up a small studio in her back garden in Northfields where she was joined by 2 other potters who had met at classes.  The 3 potters still share the space and meet together once a week to discuss and share ideas.  Jackie managed to buy a second hand wheel and between the 3 of them they purchased a new kiln, doing communal firings as storage is tight in the studio.

Jackie currently studies at Richmond Art College, working to improve her throwing technique and learn about all things ceramic.  A real perfectionist, obsessed with the line and form of a pot and only happy once the piece is absolutely right.  She finds it hard sometimes to let her pieces go as they become a labour of love.

In September 2018 Jackie entered BEAT for the first time and was delighted that lots of her pieces sold and is now venturing into the market place with Sugar and Spice Flea Market.

You can find Jackie at the 6th April Sugar and Spice Flea Market at St. Mary's Church Hall, W5 5RH.  Open 11-4pm.
