Flea Market Travels

Along with organising Sugar and Spice Flea, I run my vintage homeware business, Cup and Saucer UK (https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CupandSaucerUK) where I source and sell vintage homeware, furniture and collectable books.

I love nothing more than rummaging at antique fairs and flea markets and have started exploring flea markets further afield.

In June 2018 I visited Nice, France.  There is a weekly fruit, vegetable and flower market on Cours Saleya (Tuesday-Sunday) and on a Monday, this whole area becomes an antiques/flea market.   Open from 7.30 am and it runs until around 5.30pm.  There are so many stalls, lots of things to see (and buy!).  A lot of the stalls are high end antiques and collectables but you can find a bargain there too.  It is a really enjoyable market, stop for a break at one of the many cafes that run alongside the market, enjoy a drink and some people watching.

In April I visited the Paris flea - Portes de Vanves.  Dating back to the 1920's, come rain or shine this market is held every Saturday and Sunday and has approximately 380 sellers.

The market occupies 2 streets in the 14th arrondissement of Paris: av. Marc Sangnier and BC Georges Lafenestre.  Opening hours are 7am-2pm.  Nearest metro is Porte de Vanves on line 13.

I loved it and found lots of treasures at very reasonable prices including several 1950's Banania tins. Be prepared to haggle, the sellers do expect this and take cash - most of the traders only accept cash.

There are a couple of good food stalls selling great coffee and chips!  I will definitely be returning again, this time with a bigger suitcase!
